A building designed for literally scaling the walls!

campagneplein dormitory

You can literally scale the walls of this nine-story dormitory at Twente University in Enschede, Netherlands! According to Arons and Gelauff Architects, the climbing wall was an integral part of the building’s design from their first sketches. It’s actually the second largest climbing wall in the Netherlands, with no less than 2,500 grips facilitating the ninety foot-plus climb. The 87-unit dormitory also features 3,600 sq. ft. of commercial space and a supermarket.

Could you imagine something like this in the States? Thanks to the overly litigious, most of our playgrounds have had all of the fun safety-engineered out of them. Not much competition for the video games and reality shows!
