An Outdoor Christmas Tree Trimming

Holiday decorations are serious business in our house. Every year we design new ornaments and spin yard after yard of colorful garland with the kids to create a fantastical winter wonderland. The weather has been unseasonably warm in Georgia, so we decided to decorate the tree outside this year. The result? Our favorite Christmas tree ever! Even the puppy got in on the magic :)

You can’t have the best-dressed tree if you don’t start off with the best tree first. We got off to a great start when Balsam Hill sent us over their hyper-realistic Balsam Fir Christmas Tree. This isn’t your typical artificial Christmas tree—the branches were molded using cuttings from real fir trees, with brown-tinged stems to lend a touch of warmth to the natural green color of the tips.

We were completely blown away by the fullness of the tree. We put it together easily in about fifteen minutes and then took it outside for our annual tree trimming festivities.

We always start by making one or two ornaments that will anchor the overall look of the tree and then pull the kids together for the rest of the decorations. Simple ribbons made from strips of blue felt and decoupage paper ornaments served as the primary elements this year. The kids then added tinsel, scrap fabric, and yarn in complementary colors to finish off the tree.

After wrapping a few gifts outdoors and adding the star to the top, we carried the tree back inside to plug in the lights and see the results of our hard work. The super fun tree definitely lit up the faces of everyone in the family! Now we’re all set for the big day.
