Washi tape, made with Japanese paper, is fun for kids and grown-ups alike. But what if you could make and customize your own? This colorable printable lets you create your own version of this fun craft supply.
Instead of using specialty paper, these decorative strips can be printed on regular paper. Next, they’re transformed into stickers by adding double-sided tape.
Use the full-color paper tape stickers for a fast finish, or print out the outlined versions so you can color them yourself. Or, leave them in black and white!
When they’re done, start sticking them onto your notebook, calendar, scrapbook, or anywhere you want a bit of fun decoration!
what you need:
- 1-Inch paper-backed double-sided tape or scrapbooking adhesive
- Colored pencils or fine-tip markers
- Printable template
Print as many of the pages of paper tape strips as you like. Cut out the strips just inside the outline.
Roll the double-sided tape, sticky side down, to the back of the paper strips. Make sure that the edges are as straight and even as possible. If any of the tape is showing on the front, you can trim it away.
If you’re using the outlined version, color the designs with colored pencils or fine-tipped markers. The full-color paper tapes are a good example for coloring ideas, but they shouldn’t limit your creativity!
You may even want to print several copies of the same pages so you can make a few styles of each design.
Trim the paper tape. Some of the designs are suitable for cutting in half to make narrower tape.
You can also cut the strips into shorter pieces.
Some tapes or adhesives can be torn like regular paper tape, but most will need to be cut.
Trim the ends to different lengths and at different angles. Try making the ends pointed like an arrow or trimmed with a jagged edge similar to torn paper tape.
On some of the designs, it’s a good idea to pay attention to where you cut the strips so you don’t cut the pictures in half.
To use your paper tape, peel off the backing.
Press the sticker wherever you want!
One roll of washi tape is never enough, and one strip of paper tape isn’t enough either! Print and color a bunch of pieces, fill in with some of the colored designs, and then cut them into different sizes for a fun collection of tape stickers!
Do pay attention to the type of adhesive tape you are using. If it’s permanent, you won’t want to stick it to anything that may be damaged by the tape!
Instead of using regular paper and paper-backed adhesive, you could print these on full sheets of sticker paper. Of course, you can also print on regular paper and adhere the paper tape with a glue stick.
Another fun way to use these is to stick them down uncolored, then color them once they’re on your notebook!
