Valentine’s Day Straw Launchers

DIY Valentine's Day Straw Launchers

Even as an adult, I’m often tempted to shoot a straw wrapper at a sibling. A quick puff of air through the straw sends it sailing! Since that’s not exactly the best example of table manners, try this fun alternative. You can even pretend to be cupid aiming for a heart!

What You Need

  • Paper or Card Stock (see note)
  • Scissors & Ruler or Paper Cutter
  • Washi Tape
  • Straws

Note: Paper or card stock will work for this, but card stock will help the pieces last longer.

How-To

Step 1
Cut the paper or card stock into pieces so you end up with a square and two 1-inch strips. You’ll have an extra piece, so discard that.

Step 2
Use washi tape to make a border around the sides of the large square. Fold the tape over the edges.

Step 3
Make a heart or perhaps some Xs and Os with washi tape. This will be the target.

Step 4
Fold the 1-inch strips in half.

Step 5
Use washi tape to close the long sides of the folded strips, then decorate with more tape if you’d like. You can also decorate these with fine-tipped markers. Let’s call these the arrows!

Step 6
Holding the taped sides of the arrows, squeeze the edges to open them up a bit. The more tube-like your arrow is, the better it will fly.

Step 7
Slide each arrow onto a straw, then get ready to launch those arrows! If you find that you’re having a hard time getting the arrows to fly, squeeze the sides again to open the tube and make sure that air isn’t escaping from the top.

It can take some practice (and a little luck!) to get accurate with your arrows, but it’s perfect for some silly fun. Ready, aim, fire!

Happy crafting!
