Mini Holiday Owl Sweeties

Mini Holiday Owl Sweeties

Owls are amongst my favorite of creatures. Not only are they infinitely wise (so I hear) with impeccable eyesight but they are just so CUTE. I think it must be the eyes. Who can resist those giant peepers, looking around so innocently? These Mini Holiday Sweetie Owls are every bit as cute as the real thing, maybe even more so. And BONUS, they are completely edible. Well, I suppose real owls are completely edible as well but these chocolate-y caramel-y sweet & salty sweets are much more appetizing!

How To

Mini Holiday Owl Sweeties

Step 1
Before you begin, line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Break a pretzel stick in half and press a Rolo into both ends. Press the Rolos down to meet each other (you can also use a piece of toothpick to do this, but pretzel sticks are safer and keep the whole owl completely edible). Repeat with remaining full sized Rolos and pretzel sticks. You should end up with 12 owl bodies.

Step 2
Fill a piping bag fitted with a small round tip with the frosting. Place two mini pretzels together so that the bumpy edges are facing downward. Do this with all of the mini pretzels so that you have 12 sets of wings laid out on the baking sheet.

Step 3
Pipe a thick line of frosting onto the center of each set of wings. Place an owl body on top of the frosting on each set of wings. Attaching with frosting, place two mini Rolos at the top of each owl body.

Pipe a dot of frosting in the center of each mini Rolo for eyes. *QUICK TRICK: let the frosting sit for 5 minutes then dip your finger in a little water and gently press down each frosting point on the eyes so that they become completely smooth and rounded.

Step 4
Pipe a small amount of frosting in between each set of owl eyes. Place a yellow sunflower seed, pointed side down, on the frosting.
