Dish Sponge Popsicles

Dish Sponge Popsicles

Three cheers for summer! Is there anything more summery than a good ol’ popsicle? How about 20 made of rainbow-hued dish sponges? We had so much fun collecting these sponges and hunting down as many different colors as we could. We actually only needed to go to 2 different dollar stores to get all these, if you can believe it! When you are out and about on your colorful dish sponge hunt, keep your eyes peeled of course for different colored sponges but also different shapes. Some of the wavy-edged sponges pictured had those dark green scrubby backs, but don’t let that deter you. You can easily just make that scrubby side the back and attach it to the wall, or carefully use a craft knife to cut that side completely off. Voila!

They’re a super affordable and crazy quick DIY decoration for summer pool parties – just stick them to the wall with tape or sticky tack. You could even turn them into a garland with some embroidery thread and an oversized needle.

As an added bonus, the popsicle sticks are completely removable so after the party, you can store these sponges under the sink and use them for dishes! We’re betting you’ll be stocked in sponges for quite some time. Or, if you are hosting a pool party or a scorching hot summer day, remove the popsicle sticks from the sponge and put all the sponges in buckets of water. Kids (and adults!) can throw the sponges around in the pool or on your lawn like water balloons! Just make sure to remove those sticks first.

We kept our sponges super simple and quick, but you could totally turn this into an activity for kids. Gather up some ribbon, paper, stickers, beads, sequins, glitter, googly eyes, whatever you like, and white glue. Kids can go to town and add some fun crafty details onto the plain sponge popsicles to look like crazy flavors!
