Kawaii Star Jar Night Light

Kawaii Star Jar Night Light

Look to the stars with this super cute night light jar! Wrapped in a pastel galaxy, you’ll love how the light shines through the jar and the stars smile as you sleep. This project is as easy as cutting, making faces, and gluing!

You can choose just one color for your stars or a whole rainbow. We went with bright pastel colors, but you could use any mix of your favorites.

A scattering of stars already makes this a cute night light, but to make it even more kawaii you can add little faces. All it takes is a few dots of paint!

what you need:

Kawaii Star Jar Night Light
  • Freezer Paper (optional, but helpful!)
  • Pencil
  • Iron
  • Felt in Pastel Colors
  • Scissors
  • Acrylic Paint in Black and Pink
  • Bamboo Skewer
  • Craft Glue
  • Jar (see note below)
  • Battery-Powered Tealight Candle
  • Printable template

Note: A recycled jar is perfect for this project. We used a glass jam jar because we know it will stay safe on a shelf, however, for young children a plastic jar (like from peanut butter) would be a safer option.

how-to:

Step 1
Print the star template and trace the stars onto the non-shiny side of the freezer paper. Trace as many stars as you want for your jar.

Cut the freezer paper into sections so you have a few stars for each color of felt. Iron the freezer paper to the felt.

Freezer paper makes it easier to cut the felt stars, but you can skip this step and simply cut out stars with the template.

Step 3
Paint a tiny face on a few of the stars. Use the pointed end of the skewer to make the eyes and mouth with black paint. Use the flat end of the skewer to make the cheeks with pink paint.Let the paint dry before you move to the next step.

Step 5
Add more stars around the jar. You can rotate them a little so they sort of fit together.

Fill in with more stars to cover the jar.

Step 6
Place a battery-powered candle in the bottom of the jar. If your candle has a timer you can set it to come on at bedtime, and then it will turn itself off!

When you turn off the lights the candle will add a soft glow and you can see the stars with the light behind them.

This sample is a pretty small jar, but you could also use a larger jar and a bigger candle for more light. Of course, you can also glue fewer stars on your jar to let more light shine through.

Try your night light with the lid on so the light only comes through the sides or remove the lid so it glows on the ceiling too!
