Pinecone Butterfly Valentines

Pinecone Butterfly Valentines

Pinecones have been a minor obsession at our house for the past few months. We always end up bringing some home after walks so despite using them for quite a few crafts lately, we still have a good amount of them left. I was looking at a box of them and thinking about the pinecone moths I made last year and I thought they’d be really fun as butterflies too! I used small pinecones for these, but if you only have the jumbo ones, you could instead make larger butterfly wings and write the message on the wings themselves and omit the background card bit completely!

Step 1
Lay out your pinecones on some scrap paper and use a pencil to make a template for the wings of the butterfly.
Step 2
Trace the templates onto the plain side of cereal box cardboard (or construction paper or cardstock) and cut out. Decorate the wings with crayons, colored pencils, or makers and then fold the wings down the center.
Step 3
Use hot-glue to attach the pinecones to the centerfold of each set of wings.
Step 4
Cut a piece of cardstock to be the base for your card and write the message “you make my heart flutter!” on the front. Write a custom message on the back of the card, and then glue the butterfly to the front of the card.
