Lemonade stands are one of summer’s favorite activities for children. Setting up the stand, organizing and assigning each team member’s role, using math skills to process payments and giving change: there are so many valuable things a child can learn from selling lemonade! Get the instructions for the stand featured above from Oh Happy Day.

I remember my girls would spend days organizing their lemonade stand with their play friends, and we always made a point of choosing their favorite cause for cash proceeds. They were so proud of sending a check to the local dog shelter, or another cause dear to their heart. It also taught them to speak to customers in a polite manner, and it was always a good occasion for me to remind them about child safety and precautions when dealing with strangers.

These are a few of my favorite lemonade stands. Most can be done as a DIY project without too many work tools, and come with a simple step-by-step tutorial. In any case, your child will have tons of fun and many hours away from the TV screen or video games. (And we say yay to that!)
