Step 1
Sketch our your design onto a piece of paper. You’ll use this as a general guideline for your artwork.

Step 2
Sketch out the design onto your canvas.

Step 3
Peel your crayons. (The amount of wrapper that you will remove will depend on whether you want to cover a large or small area with color.) Cover your work area because the melted wax can splatter.

Step 4
Turn on your hair dryer and blow it onto the crayon. As the hot air melts the wax, it will get easier and easier to draw on the canvas. Don’t press too hard on the crayon or else it will break. If you feel the crayon getting too soft to work with, move your hair dryer farther away.

Step 5
To color in the larger areas, try the fork technique. Break the crayon in half and peel off the entire wrapper. Then use a fork to hold down the crayon as you blow it with hot air. If you feel the crayon rolling away, turn the hot air away from the crayon. Then secure it again under your fork before continuing.

NOTE: To ensure that your colors don’t unintentionally mix, clean your fork. Place the fork on a paper towel far away from your artwork. Then, turn on the hair dryer. The hot air will melt the wax right off. It will spatter, so be careful!
