Oatmeal Cookie Valentines

Oatmeal Cookie Valentines
I love baking with oatmeal – granola, baked oatmeal, snack bars, and of course oatmeal cookies! I’d been thinking of baking a batch of oatmeal cookies lately when I remember this simple gift idea I shared on the blog a few years ago now: making homemade granola and attaching a punny tag on top. What better time to give the gift of cookies, along with a pun of course, than Valentine’s Day? This project is super simple and can be adapted in a ton of ways to suit whatever you have on hand and how much time you have. Make a giant oatmeal cookie and use icing to spell out the message on the cookie itself! Put a whole batch of oatmeal cookies in a gift box or jar and put the message on a gift tag instead! Or if you have a favorite brand of store-bought oatmeal cookies, use those instead if you’re running low on time.

what you need:

  • Oatmeal cookies
  • Paper bags
  • Alphabet stamps
  • Inkpad

how-to:

Step 1
Bake a batch of your favorite oatmeal cookies and let cool. I used this recipe and despite somehow managing to have a little mix-up with baking soda and baking powder, they turned out super tasty. There is also this yummy recipe for Oatmeal Cream Pies in the blog archives that would be perfect for this!
Step 2
On small paper bags or glassine envelopes, use alphabet stamps and an inkpad to spell out “I tOATally love you!” or a similar Valentine’s Day message including the word “tOATally”.
Step 3
Put the cooled cookies into the bags and fold over the seal, using a sticker or washi tape to keep closed if needed.
Notes:
You can use this phrase combined with oatmeal cookies in a ton of ways! Instead of giving out single cookies, you could put a whole batch in a box for your Valentine and write the message on a gift tag on top instead. Or if you’re running low on time, use store-bought oatmeal cookies and attach a tag onto those!
