Today we’re sharing another fun craft inspired by a vintage craft book! This project comes from Crafts for Kids: A Month-by-Month Idea Book from 1984. Originally called Ten-Circle Pumpkin, we instead made smaller circles and only used eight.  We also painted the orange paper first and then used craft paper and wire for the pumpkin’s stem. The finished craft almost reminds us of honeycomb pumpkins but simpler!! We like these as table decor but they’d also be super cute strung together as a garland. • Orange construction paper
• Paint (shades of orange, red, and pink)
• Paintbrushes and/or scraps of cardboard
• Scissors
• Pencil
• Hot glue gun
• Circular lid (or similar, to trace)
• Kraft paper
• Kraft paper wrapped wire

Step 1
Set up your orange construction paper on a table and let little ones paint it with shades of orange, red, and pink. We did a simple paint scrape method, and also used brushes after. You can really use almost any method you like here! Allow them to dry completely. If paper warps when dried, press them flat with heavy books before continuing to the next step.

Step 2
Trace a round lid onto the back of the paper. Each pumpkin needs 8 circles – the original craft says to use 10 circles, but since we made ours smaller 8 was perfect. Feel free to adjust this to suit what you think looks best! Cut out all the circles.

Step 3
For each pumpkin, you’ll keep one circle intact, but the remaining 7 circles will have a slit cut through them. To do this, gently fold a circle in half (painted side in) but without actually making a crease. Use scissors to eyeball the center of the circle and cut a slit so that roughly 1/2″ remains intact.

Step 4
Now you can slide each of the 7 cut circles onto the last circle, forming a cool pumpkin! Watch our video to better see how to do this step.

Step 5
Take a piece of brown kraft paper and twist into a stem shape. Wrap wire around a pencil to make a little vine coil, remove from the pencil, and twist onto the pumpkin stem. Hot glue the stem into the center of the pumpkin.
