Halloween Moon Pouch

Halloween Moon Pouch

Kids love to get involved in decorating for holidays, or helping to plan parties, whether for a group of neighbors and friends or just immediate family. Every special touch contributes to making childhood memories magical. These moon pouches are a fun and simple craft for the entire family, and look adorable at each place setting for Halloween dinner. Guests can take them home as favors, or they can be filled with each family member’s favorite candy and small toys. Change up the color scheme for an outer space party (and fill them with Mars candy bars), create all the phases of the moon, or hang some string or ribbon from the bottom for a Bohemian vibe. You could also string them on a garland. So many possibilities!

Step 1
Turn one paper plate over, and place it on top of the other, creating a gap between the two. Now push the top plate down on the other, so it is turned inside out. Place a portion of your bowl on the plates, creating a moon shape, and trace around the bowl. Use small scissors to cut out the moon, holding the two plates together the entire time. If you are making more than one, you may use the plates as tracers.

Step 2
Turn the inside-out plate back to its original position, and paint the two moon plates in the color of your choice, using acrylic paint. Add glitter to the sides that will be facing out while the paint is still wet, and shake off any excess. Allow to dry.

Step 3
Place the moon plates in “bowl-like” position, and put a line of glue around the rippled edges of one moon. Leave the cut side glue-free. Line the second plate up perfectly with the first on top of the glue, and push the plates together around the edges. You may glue some star confetti to the moon, if you wish. Allow to dry.
