St Patrick’s Day is a few weeks away and we’ve got pasta crafts on the brain! Shamrocks are the national emblem of Ireland and with their simple, iconic shape we just knew we could come up with a pasta craft to perfectly suit the occasion.
These shamrock cupcake toppers use one of our go-to pasta noodles for crafting: orecchiette! Their round shape makes them perfect for the shamrock leaves, but you could also use large shells or other rounded pasta noodles instead if you prefer. If you’re making cupcakes for a crowd, you could even make one special cupcake topper with four leaves instead of just three – whoever gets that cupcake will get some extra good luck! Keep reading to learn how to make your own set of shamrock cupcake toppers!
what you need:
- Orecchiette pasta noodles
- Wooden stir sticks
- Delta Ceramcoat Acrylic Paint
- Hot glue gun
Cut the end off of a wooden stir stick so that it’s about 1 1/2″ long. Apply a line of hot glue to the top 3/4″ (by the cut side of the stir stick) and arrange three orecchiette noodles onto the hot glue, forming a shamrock. Because just the edges of the noodles are making contact with the glue, make sure that you press them securely into the glue and let it rest on the table until the glue has hardened. Repeat this process for as many cupcakes you have.
Once all the glue has dried on the shamrocks, time to give them a coat of paint! We used two shades of green: jubilee green and leaf green. Let the shamrocks dry completely.
Apply another small line of hot glue, but this time onto the back of the painted stir stick. Press a toothpick into the glue and let harden. Once dry, decorate your frosted cupcakes with the shamrocks!
