Seeing holidays through the eyes of a child just makes them so magical! We delight in coming up with ideas to make celebrations extra special and memorable for the kiddos. I am sure we can all remember attending a few events as a child where we got that “children should be seen and not heard” vibe, and I always want my kids to feel included and welcome on all occasions. One of the best ways to do that is to create whimsical decorations or favors. These little acorn containers are perfect for the kids’ table, and they can be filled with snacks during that long wait for Thanksgiving dinner! They could also hold goodies and favors for a little entertainment. In the meantime, they make the cutest decorations!
what you need:
- 12 oz. plastic stemless wine glasses
- Plastic bowls
- Acrylic paint in tan and brown
- Sponge brush
- Tacky glue
- Brown party streamers
- Fringe scissors
- Snacks, candy, or favors
Paint the outside of your plastic stemless wine glasses in a tan color, and the outside of your plastic bowls in brown. Allow to dry. If you have a Dremel or proper cutting tool, you may cut the stems off of plastic wine glasses as well. There will be a hole on the bottom, but if you fill the cups with wrapped candy or favors that are large enough, it won’t matter. This will allow for some variety in your acorn shapes, but isn’t necessary. There are a few bowl options as well. These work best with the skinnier glasses.
Fold your brown streamers in half, and create fringe using your fringe scissors on the open side. Glue the fringe to the bowl, starting at the bottom and working your way to the top. Allow to dry.
Cut a twig down to about an inch, and use tacky glue (or hot glue) to attach it to the bottom and center of the bowl. Allow to dry.
Fill the wine glass with candy, favors or snacks, and place the bowl upside down on top of the wine glass as a lid.
